Located just 90km south of Sicily, Malta is only a few hours away from most major European cities. With a population of around 415 000, the Maltese Islands cover an area of 316km² and traveling distance from any two points is normally less than 30 minutes. The climate is mild and pleasant throughout most of the year. Two of the major attractions in Malta are the capital city Valletta which overlooks the Grand Harbour and Mdina, a fortified medieval town on a hill in the centre of the island. The Maltese Islands boast numerous archeological sites including the megalithic temples of Hagar Qim, Mnajdra (both in Malta) and also Ggantija Temples (in Gozo). Surrounded by the clear blue Mediterranean Sea, the Maltese Islands are a dream destination for divers keen to discover unspoilt creeks. Besides being rich in history and culture, Malta has plenty to offer during the evenings with options varying from live theatre, casinos, nightclubs, bars and restaurants, not to mention the traditional village celebrations, better known as ‘Festa Night’, which take place between May and September.
